Timing and saftey in a meeting

Timing is imperative. Make sure there is a clear time limit for the whole meeting, as well as for each agenda item. Nobody likes a meeting that drags on endlessly with no end in sight. When I lead meetings I make sure to methodically check the time to make sure I am on par with the agenda. If I am off agenda I ask the group what they want to do and get agreement. Someone may want to keep going on a topic, but make sure to acknowledge the breech of time and that you will either have to have the meeting go longer, strike something off the list of the agenda or curtail other item(s). Another factor is safety. People for the most part need to feel safe so that they can take risks and share what is authentically on their minds and hearts. The facilitator can create that safety by using working agreements or ground rules. These are norms of behaviors that participants can agree on up front so that everyone is consciously on the same page. Some examples of agreements are: cell phones on vibrate, no phone use during meetings, keep side conversations at a minimum, let quieter people have space to share, etc. Ground rules help the facilitator keep the group on track with effective behaviors that will serve the group’s highest potential and keep unwanted behaviors at bay.

Serving the Milford, NH area

Milford, NH

Milford, NH is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States, on the Souhegan River. The population was 15,115 at the 2010 census. It is the retail and manufacturing center of a six-town area known informally as the Souhegan Valley.

History

Milford separated from neighboring Amherst in 1794. Like most towns named Milford in the United States, its name comes from the fact that it grew around a mill built on a ford — in this case on the Souhegan River.

Milford was once home to numerous granite quarries, which produced a stone that was used, among other things, to make the pillars for the U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C. — pillars that can be seen on the back of the American $10 bill, although it is unclear whether that will remain after the bill is redesigned. Its nickname remains “The Granite Town”, although only one small quarry is in operation as of 2017.
